Math in Action

Math in Action is a collection of math enrichment programs available for elementary students.

Program for 2011-2012:

MIA Classes, MIA Online/IXL Math, MIA Game Time, Math Challenge

MIA Class is an extra-curricular class that meet weekly afterschool. Currently available at Rockwell for grade 4, 5, and 6.

MIA Online/IXLMath is an excellent way for students to strengthen their math skills at their own pace anytime, anyplace where they have internet access. Skills alignments to Envision Math are available. Currently implemented at Rockwell.

Math Challenge is a series of math challenges published every other weeks in the school's e-news and in this website.

The program is available at Rockwell, Horace Mann, and Audubon.

MIA Game Time is a series of game sessions available during lunch recess for grade K-3 in Fall/Winter.

Thousands of students in grade 5-8 participated at the Washington Math Olympiad.  Twenty of Rockwell's fine mathletes participated at the event. Their names are:  Hafsa M, Eesha  M, Matthew S,  Rhea P, Ryan B, Jonathan H, Ciaran O, Max P, Shuchi J, Caitlin S, Ian H, Trishla J, Ailey B, Vanshika K, Garvit M, Ariel S, Amanda L, Vidha S, Rama T, and Kerilyn H. They did a wonderful job exhibiting their outstanding math skills. They brought home 4 Superior Medals and 2 Excelent Ribbons!

April is Math Awareness Month! Rockwell is celebrating by having an online IXL Math Skills Tourney. Come back to check on the results!

Winners are: Ms. Sanchez's class and Ms. Holmen's class.

The MIA Fifth grade (Eesha M, Hafsa M, *Rabeeya A, Rhea P, Ciaran O, Johnathan H, Matthew S, *Ryan B, and Max P) from Rockwell did AWESOME at the Math is Cool. Despite from being placed at the top division,competing against the very competitive schools in the Puget Sound area, they got 8th place. Congratulation! We are proud of you!

Math Kangaroo competition (Gr. 1 and up) for Redmond region was held at Digipen Campus on March 15. About four dozen students from Rockwell participated at the event. Results will be announced in May 2012.

Feb. 17, 2012

Fifth and Sixth grade MIA Rockwell (23 students) did an awesome job at the MRMI 2012. Our fifth grade team (Eesha M, Hafsa M, *Rabeeya A, Rhea P, Ciaran O, Johnathan H, Matthew S, *Ryan B, Shuchi J, and Max P) won first place in the Fifth Grade Level Contest!

The Sixth Grade Team (Caitlin S, Ian H, Ailey B, Trishla J, Garvit M, Punya M, Vanshika K, Anika D, Kerilyn H, Rama T, Vidha S, and Anton B) got third place in the Sixth Grade Level Contest. 
They rock!!!

Feb. 3, 2012

Sixth grade MIA Rockwell (Trishla J, Ian H, Caitlin S, Ailey B, Alisha H, Garvit M, Punya M, Vanshika K, Anika T, Kerilyn H, Rama T, Vidha S)did great at the Math is Cool competition on Feb. 3rd. They took home 2nd place. Caitlin, Rama, and Punya also got placed third, fifth, and sixth in the Individual category.

A team of four will compete at the state level MIC on May 19 (Moses Lake, WA)
