Math Challenge is a free enrichment program for all Gibbons Elementary School students; no registration is necessary! There will be 10 sets of challenges published approximately every other week throughout the school year, and each set will present 10-18 problems ordered by level of difficulty. Each grade should complete a minimum number of problems, which will be listed at the top of each math challenge. They are as follows:
Kindergarten and 1st grade: at least 3 problems
2nd and 3rd grade: at least 7 problems
4th and 5th grade: at least 12 problems

How to Participate

  1. Students will receive a copy of the current math challenge or can be printed out at home. There will be extra copies outside of Mrs. Boughton’s office.
  2. Solve as many questions as you can. Please pay attention to the minimum number of questions required for your grade. Students are encouraged to show their work and ask for help if needed! Students are able to work together and help each other out, as long as the work is being done by all. Each student must hand in their own copy of the math challenge in order to get credit.
  3. Students should turn in their completed math challenge (don’t forget to put your name and class on it!) in the box by the front office by the due date.
  4. Students will be entered into a raffle to win a prize for their completed math challenge, and the winners will be announced the day after the challenges are due. The class who turns in the most Math Challenges will also get an extra recess. If you complete at least 8 challenges, you will also receive an award at the end of the program for all your hard work!

Good luck Gibbons Griffins!
