Math Challenge 2026-2027

Welcome to the Math Challenge Program (MCP) at Hometown Elementary School! Students can participate by solving biweekly math challenges and submitting their answers according to the instructions below. ​
  • All students are invited to participate.
  • There will be 15 challenges throughout the school year.
  • Refer to the Schedule Calendar for dates on when the challenges and their solutions will be available 
👨‍👩‍👧 For Families:
​We encourage families to explore the challenges together. Discussing strategies and ideas is a great way to build problem-solving skills.

🧠 How to Participate

  • Access the current challenge
    Use the link above (CURRENT MATH CHALLENGE) to view the latest Math Challenge set. New challenges are released every two weeks as per schedule below.
  • Solve the problems
    Work independently or with family—show your thinking clearly
  • Submit your answers
    Follow the submission method listed below before the due date.
  • Check solutions
    The solutions will be released along with the next challenge. Students are encouraged to: review their work, learn different strategies, reflect on their approach

✏️​ Submission Instructions

Monthly Math Challenges are back at Hometown Elementary this school year!
  • Students will submit both a paper and a digital copy of the challenges they complete each month.
  • Teachers will keep the paper copies in their "Have You Used Math Today?" folders in the classroom to be picked up at the end of the month by the 5th Grade Math Club​

​🏆 Recognition

Students who consistently participate will be recognized for their effort and persistence.
  • Student will receive math money for every challenge they complete. They may save their math money to buy prizes or rewards at our monthly math store including pencils, erasers, stickers, bracelets, math tools, ice cream, lunch and math games (1 fall and 1 in spring) cookie decorating in December and our end of year pizza party picnic in May.
  • Class money will be recorded on our giant hallway wall chart each month. The grade level who earns the most math money will be rewarded with an ice cream social at the end of the year.
