Tournament Format
Math Challenge questions are in multiple choice format, both on Mental Math type questions and Problem-Solving questions. Students 20 minutes to complete the Mental Math test and 40 minutes to complete the Problem-Solving test.
NOTE: Scratch papers are allowed on both sections; however, it’s recommended to solve the Mental Math sections ‘mentally’ to save time.
Mental Math Test Booklet: 40 questions of Mental Math type of questions. Each correct answer is worth 2 points. Blanks and incorrect answers are worth 0 point. Maximum individual score on this section is 80 points.
Problem Solving Test Booklet: 20 questions of Problem-Solving type questions. The first 8 questions on this category are worth 5 points each, the next 7 questions are of intermediate difficulty and worth 7 points each, and the last 5 questions are harder and worth 10 points each. Blanks and incorrect answers are worth 0 point. Maximum individual score on this section is 139 points.
A student’s final score is the sum of points earned on Mental Math section and Problem-solving section. The maximum final score is 219 points.
General Rules:
Each level has 2 divisions:
Division 1 is for students who are enrolled in a full-time accelerated learning program such as Quest, GATE, ALP, and Hi-Capable or students who are learning at least 1 grade above their grade level.
Division 2 is for all students who are learning math at their grade level and not enrolled in any full-time accelerated learning program.

- Calculators, notes, reference material, dictionaries, and other aids (including those can be accessed from computers and devices) are NOT permitted. No aids other than a pencil and scratch papers are allowed.
- Once students start the test, they will have 20 minutes to complete the Mental Math test and 40 minutes to complete the Problem-Solving test.
- Students are allowed to skip questions.
- No point will be given for marking more than one answer for the same question.
