MATH CHALLENGE

Math Challenge 2025-2026

Chairperson: Angie Costello at [email protected]

General Information

Welcome to the Timberline Math Challenge! All students in grades K-5 are invited to participate. The program is completely FREE and no sign-up is necessary.

This is a great opportunity for families to get involved and enjoy math together through fun and engaging math problems. We encourage families and siblings to work together to discuss and solve these challenges. Students are encouraged to utilize problem solving strategies such as draw a picture or model, make an organized list, look for a pattern, and guess and check.

Students who participate in the challenge will receive recognition and will earn prizes along the way for completing multiple challenges.

How to Participate

  • Pick up the packet under the Math Challenge bulletin board. It’s the bulletin board between the art room and the library. You can also access and print the current challenge at home by clicking the big blue button on the top right corner of this page that says, ‘Current Math Challenge’.
  • Remember to ask for help if you need it. You can ask a family member, a friend, anyone who could help! Don't forget to show your thinking and calculations so we can see your awesome work.
  • Complete the minimum number of questions for your grade level.  Solve any of the questions you want–you do not need to answer them in order.
            * Kinder & First Grade: solve at least 3 problems.
            * Second & Third Grade: solve at least 7 problems.
            * Fourth - Sixth Grade: solve at least 12 problems.
  • Refer to the Timberline Math Challenge Calendar for dates on when the challenges and their solutions will be available on this webpage.
  • Please make sure to write your full name and your teacher’s name on your completed challenge.
  • Submit your challenge packet with solutions to Mrs. Costello by placing it in the Turn-In bin under the Math Challenge bulletin board by 2:45pm on the due date. No late submissions will be accepted.
  • The answers for the challenge will be posted on this website at 1pm MST on the Friday after the challenge is due.
  • Contact Mrs. Costello with any questions:  [email protected].
  • Have fun!! 🙂
