The Math Challenge program is a free school-wide math enrichment program for elementary students consisting of series of challenging and interesting math problems.
The program provides 15 sets of challenges throughout the school year; each set is published intermittently (schedule provided below) starting in late September and ending in May. These math challenges cover problem solving strategies such as drawing a picture or model, making an organized list, looking for a pattern, working backward, and guessing and checking. Each challenge presents 10 to 18 problems ordered by level of difficulties which enables students from various grades to participate.

How to Participate
Problems will be available online for printing, and hard copies will be available at school for pick up, based on the schedule listed at the bottom of this page.
For questions or help on any of the problems, email to mathchallenge@moorlandspta.org or post to the Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/575966879589003/. Plans for in-person work groups at school for this year have not been defined (this is optional); when available, details will be provided thru email and the Facebook page.
Answers can be emailed to mathchallenge@moorlandspta.org or dropped off at school by the due date listed in the schedule. When sending email, include child’s name, teacher’s name, grade, and number of problems solved (no need to send a copy of the problem set). The pick-up and drop-off at school will be in Mrs. Pearia's classroom; more details will be announced by email and our Facebook page in September.
There is no grading of the problem sets. However, the first 3 sets will be reviewed and returned to provide high level feedback. Solutions will be available online per schedule below, so parents and children are encouraged to review their work.
There will be 2 scheduled rewards:
The purpose of this program is to entice, engage and challenge students to solve interesting math problems while along the way, strengthen their math fundamentals, critical thinking, problem solving skills and improve confidence in math.
