How to Participate
1) GET the Challenge. You can access the challenge from this website https://www.mathinaction.org/shepherd-glen.html. You can then choose to work on it by viewing it or printing it out.
2) SOLVE as many problems as you can! You can skip around and solve problems in any order. Use a math notebook or scrap paper to work out solutions. Ask for help if you need it. We encourage you to discuss strategies with your family members or classmates.
Every grade-level has a recommended minimum number of problems to solve.
• Kindergarten and 1st Grade: Solve at least 3 problems.
• 2nd and 3rd Grade: Solve at least 7 problems.
• 4th, 5th, and 6th Grade: Solve at least 12 problems.
3) SUBMIT your answers on the Shepherd Glen Math Challenge Submission Form. Use your child’s Hamden Google Account to access the form. For each challenge, once you’ve completed the number of questions required for your grade-level, type your answers into the form. Only type in answers for the problems you solved. Leave questions blank if you did not complete them.
4) BE RECOGNIZED for you hard work! There will be grade-level band (K-1, 2-3 and 4-6) winners. Winners will be announced in the Math Google Classroom the Monday following the due date and/or during Top Dog Friday. Students who submit at least 12 sets of completed challenges this school year will be recognized at the end of the school year.
